Work Experience

CANTO has made great strides over recent years in our pursuit of work placement opportunities for students.  A lot of hard work has been put into the increased opportunities we are able to offer and this is led by Monique who is an assistant head of centre and oversees our employment progression opportunites.

Q&A with Monique

What kind of work placements do you offer?

CANTO are very fortunate to be working in partnership with many local organisations.  Our first step is to take students to carry our warehouse work at Phoenix Resources, where we access the employability skillls they have and plan their progression.  Once students are confident at Phoenix and are progressing well, they are able to start either supported or unsupported work placements in companies in the local community.

What support will I receive?

The support you receive on placement is completly tailored around you.  Depending on your experience, confidence and capabilities in the work place, we are able to offer you anything from intensive 1:1 support with transport to placement or by setting you targets and meeting with your employer to discuss your progress and create action plans so that your work experience is beneficial to all involved.

What are my options for progression?

Your options for progression are varied and start from moving up through the various iCan programmes at CANTO - all of which involve studying various subjects and undertaking qualifications alongside work placements, to support you in achieving the targets you are at CANTO to achieve.

Once you have shown good signs of progression and dependent upon the direction you wish to move in - your programme will either be much more work placement based to prepare you for employment or if it is college you are looking to head off to - then we will support you in achieving the necessary qualifications and the life skills needed to be succesful.

CANTO work in partnership with many external agencies to enable us to provide an encompassing programme that supports you right through every stages of your progression into becoming as independent as possible.
